-------------------------------------------------------------

1) Common IE4 Installation Issues

Q: During Installation of the CNC Workshop I selected the 'Minimum' option for the IE4 component.  Now some content of the CBT does not display properly.

A: You must re-install IE4 manually. To do this launch the 'iecd.exe' program from the  CD's  \Win95\En  folder. To do this open 'My Computer' from your desktop. Right click your CD-ROM icon and select 'Open'.  Open the 'Win95' folder. Now open the 'En' folder. Double click the 'iecd.exe' or 'iecd' (if file extensions are not shown)  program and follow the installation     this time defaulting with the 'Standard Installation' option.

--------------------------------------------

2) Q: How do I properly remove the CNC Workshop from my system?

A: Some inexperienced Windows 95/98 users have tried to remove the CNC Workshop by deleting the \cncwork folder manually. This will NOT remove the entries in the Windows registry properly. If you have done this then you must follow the instructions on the next issue below.

To properly remove the CNC Workshop from your system you MUST use the Add/Remove option in Control Panel. Select  'Start/Programs/Control Panel' from your taskbar. Then double click the 'Add/Remove' icon. In the 'Install/Uninstall' tab you will be shown a list of currently installed software. Scroll down the list if necessary to locate the CNC Workshop select it and click the 'Add/Remove' button.  This will launch the uninstall procedure and properly remove the CNC Workshop components. If you need to remove Internet Explorer 4.01 from your system follow the same procedure outlined above and select Internet Explorer 4.01 instead of the CNC Workshop from the 'Install/Uninstall' list.

---------------------------------------------------

3) Removing the \cncwork folder manually will not allow re-install

Q: I manually deleted the \cncwork folder from my computer. I tried to re-install the CNC Workshop
and it prompts me with UNABLE TO LOCATE THE INSTALLATION
LOG FILE 'C:\CNCWORK\UNIST.ISU' INSTALLATION WILL NOT CONTINUE!
What can I do?

A: This is NOT a standard way to remove software from a Windows 95/98/NT computer. You MUST
use the Add/Remove option in Control Panel. Select   'Start/Programs/Control Panel' from your taskbar.
Then double click the 'Add/Remove' icon. In the 'Install/Uninstall' tab you will be shown a list of currently
installed software. Scroll down the list if necessary to locate the CNC Workshop select it and click the
'Add/Remove' button.  This will launch the uninstall procedure and properly remove the CNC Workshop
    components.

For experienced Windows 95/98 users you can edit the CNC Workshop Windows Registry Entries Manually
Please Note: We do NOT advise this for all users.

---------------------------------------------------

4) Q: When running the CNCez Simulators I only see a menu bar and no graphics?

A: This is a known issue on some systems running Windows 98 /NT with Internet Explorer 5 and newer Java Virtual Machines then the one supplied with Internet Explorer 4.01 on the CNC Workshop CD. We are currently working with Microsoft to resolve this problem. A quick solution is to minimize the CNCez Simulator Window temporarily, then restore it. This will correct the graphics components to re-initialize properly.

---------------------------------------------------

5) Q: When running the CNC Workshop CBT an Illegal Operation is performed

A: This is a known issue with Win98 systems. To solve this problem you can download the new workshop.exe
file. It is also available in .zip format. Place this file in the \cncwork folder where you installed the cncworkshop files.

Download workshop.exe file. This file must be copied/moved to the \cncwork folder.
or
Download the workshop.zip file. It must be unzipped to the \cncwork folder.

----------------------------------------------------

6) Q: Why when I try running the CNCez Simulators a black DOS Window flashes with some text and nothing happens?

A: This is a known issue on some OEM versions of Windows 95/98.  The default \Windows\Java\Lib\com folders do not exist on these systems. Therefore  the installation of the CNCez JAVA cab file does not complete properly.

You can download the following file which will check your system and create the required folders for you.  This will allow a proper installation of the CNCez JAVA files. OR if you are an experienced Windows 95/98 user, you can create a 'Lib' folder in the \Windows\Java folder, then create a 'com' folder in the \Windows\Java\Lib folder.  (Warning! Do not attempt this if you are not an experienced Windows user. You can damage the Java folder which will corrupt your Windows and IE's JAVA capabilities.)

---------------------------------------------------------------

7) Q: Why is it everytime I launch the CNC Workshop CBT I get a warning dialog saying my font settings are wrong for IE?

A: This is not a fatal error! On initial install IE4 does not set the default font size settings in the Windows Registry.  The CNC Workshop Launch application fails to find the settings and then warns that the font settings are not set properly.  Continuing will launch the CNC Workshop with the default settings.  You can overcome this error either by changing the settings to say 'small' , exiting IE, then running IE again and setting them back to medium. OR you can download the updated workshop.exe program below.

Download the new workshop.exe   save this application file in the \CNCWork folder.
or
Download the cncwork.zip file this should be extracted to the \CNCWork folder.

----------------------------------------------------------------

8) Q: When I try to install the CNC Workshop from the CD I get an error message telling me that the program has performed an illegal operation?

A: The start.exe program produces this error on some versions of Win98. You can manually initiate the setup procedure directly by running the setup.exe file on the root folder of the CNC Workshop CD.

----------------------------------------------------------------

9) Q: The installation went well I can run the CBT however, when I run the simulators from the desktop I only see the black java console window and a menubar for the simulators. What's up?

A: The current java classes produce this phantom window with the new Java Virtual Machine found in IE5. If you minimize and then restore the CNCez simulator window, (the one attached to the simulator menu), the simulator will initialze properly.  Currently this is the only work-around for this. This problem is a known issue. We are working with Microsoft to resolve this issue and will post an update to the Java classes when available.

--------------------------------------------------------------

10) Q:After a successful installation I run the CBT. However, when selecting a topic from the navigation bar on the left, all I get is a blank black page with no sub-sections displayed. This happens for all sections  except section 4. Why?

A:  The new Java Virtual Machine causes this phenomenon with the current Java classes.  You can update the CNC Workshop Java Classes automatically on-line at http://www.torcomp.com/javatest.
Here you will be prompted with a certificate. Just click OK and Internet Explorer will automatically install the .cab file containing the updated java classes. Upon successful installation the page will update and display success.

--------------------------------------------------------------

11) Q: Darn!!! Geeze!!!  I use NetScape and even though I install successfully and follow the suggestions it still doesn't work!
What do I do?

A:  You must use Internet Explorer to run the CNC Workshop CBT. If you want NetScape as your
default browser you can manually run the CNC Workshop CBT.  Launch Internet Explorer either from the desktop or from the Start/Programs task bar.  When Internet Explorer comes up, you will probably be prompted for some sort of dialing option if you use a dialup connection with NetScape. Override this dialup dialog and you should get a blank page.  From the File menu option select Open.
Select Browse, then select your CD ROM drive, and open the Workshop Folder, then select the default.htm file.  Click Open.  Now Click OK.  Internet Explorer will open the default.htm file which will automatically launch the JAVA cab installation by displaying a security certificate dialog.  Click YES to this dialog and the .cab file will be extracted.  Upon successful installation the main CBT page will be displayed.

You can also create a shortcut from your desktop as follows:
Right-click on an empty space on your desktop and select the New.. Shortcut.. option, in the Create Shortcut dialog, select the Browse button.  Search for the Iexplorer.exe file which should reside in the Program Files folder under Internet Explorer or Plus!\Microsoft Internet folder. Select the Open button in the Browse dialog. The Create Dialog will now show a blue highlighted path with double quotes " ".
Click to the path and it will change to the un-highlighted state with a vertical flashing cursor. Click the End key on your keyboard and the vertical cursor will jump to the end of the double quoted string. Hit the space bar to insert a space after the last double quote, now insert the path to the main.htm file in the workshop folder on your CD ROM  e.g.  x:\workshop\main.htm where 'x' is the letter of your CD ROM drive. Now click finish.  You should now be able to run the CNC Workshop CBT using Internet Explorer without affecting your NetScape settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------

12) Q : I saved my NC file and now I can't load again?

This is a common problem with Java Applications.
DO NOT use non-alpha characters in your filenames when saving your program data.  e.g.  $12345.MIL or #19982.NC will save but not load thereafter.  Stick with names using alpha characters. Using the letter 'O' as a prefix is good practice as programs are saved in industry.  For example,  O1999.NC or O4598.MIL are O.K.

--------------------------------------------------------------

13) There are no Media controls to Play the Audio on any of the pages that instruct me to click on the play button below etc.  ActiveMovie Control is missing.

If you have Internet Explorer 5.0+ the installation routine may have skipped the installation of the ActiveMovie control used in Internet Explorer 4.0. You can manually install this component by running the Amovie.exe file in the Amovie folder of the CNC Workshop CD-ROM.  Simply right-click on your CD Icon with the  CNC Workshop CD inserted under My Computer. If you have autoplay enabled exit the CNC Workshop autorun screen by selecting Exit. After you right-click your CD-ROM icon in My Computer, select 'Open'. Now open the Amovie folder and run the Amovie.exe program which will install the ActiveMovie control required for the CNC Workshop.  You will now be able to run all the multi-media components of the CNC Workshop CBT.

--------------------------------------------------------------

14) How can I fix the CNCez JAVA Simulator Desktop Launch so it Initializes properly. When I launch all I get is the menubar items, I don't see the workpiece and the program doesn't respond properly.

From your desktop, right-click on the shortcut for the CNCez Simulators, select 'Properties'. From the Properties Sheet, select the 'Shortcut' tab.  In the 'Run' option, from the drop-downlist, change the 'Maximized' selection to 'Normal Window'. Click the 'Apply' button, then the 'OK' button.   The Simulator will now launch normally and Initialize the display area of the workpiece graphics.  Repeat this for the other simulator as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------

15) How can I install CNC Workshop on my Windows 2000 SP4 or Windows XP Systems?

Please note! Microsoft no longer ships the Java Virtal Machine (JVM) on any of the new Windows XP OSes.

This has caused the CNC Workshop not to function properly once installed.
If you've applied Windows 2000 SP4 then you will need to first install a base JVM like
3805 or 3809 before updating to the latest 3810 build. You can install the Microsoft
Java Virtual Machine from the Download page located at the following URLs:

You can check if you have a JVM by running the following from the command prompt;
C:>jview
or
from the 'Start' ... 'Run' enter wjview and you should get a dialog for the JVM
if you get a 'File Not Found' or 'Cannot find file...' then you don't have the JVM showing
the version number.

If you don't have a Microsoft JVM on your system then first install JVM 3805
here http://www.cncworkshop.com/javaupdate/JVM/3805/msjavx86.exe

If you do have a Microsoft JVM on your system then install JVM 3810 update
here http://www.cncworkshop.com/javaupdate/JVM/3810/MSJavWU.exe

or

http://www.cncworkshop.com/javaupdate/

Once the JVM is installed you will probably have to reboot your machine.

You can then install the CNC Workshop CD on XP.

We apologize for any incovenience this has caused, but was beyond our control.

16) How can I install CNC Workshop on my Windows XP System with SP2?

The Installshield Script that ships with CNCWORKSHOP 2.01 does not detect IE 6 updates properly. Because of this you will need to select 'No' to the dialog prompt to install IE 6 and continue with the installation. Depending on your IE 6 service pack, you may not be able to continue with the installation after selecting 'No' to the dialog prompt. In this case, you will need to manually install the CNC Workshop components as per the following issue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

17) How can I install the CNC Workshop components manually so I can run the CBT and simulators?
